InuYasha

InuYasha (also can be spelled Inuyasha) is a half-demon (a hanyou). He fell in love with the priestess Kikyou, who guarded the Shikon no Tama. Though determined to become human, Kikyou and InuYasha are turned against each other from the ever mysterious Naraku.

Though headstrong and inexperienced when he is awakened from the barrier placed on him by Kikyou, he gains much experience and power. He eventually turns more good then evil, aided in part by his love for Kagome.

Kagome

Kagome was an ordinary school girl until she was attacked by a large demon that appeared from an old, sacred well in the back of her home. Transported to a mysterious feudal world, she frees InuYasha in order to save her from the very demon that dragged her into this feudal era.

Through a hilarious "sit" spell, which causes InuYasha's head to come smashing to the ground when Kagome yells "Sit", Kagome travels with InuYasha in the search for the Shikon no Tama. She's very caring, but skilled with the bow, which carriers with it the power of a priestess that she has within her.

Miroku

Miroku can only be described as a pervert. Though a monk, he'll ask any woman in sight to "bear his child".

He has his own motives, however. His father had a spell cast on him by Naraku, which caused an air-void to appear in his hand. Though his powers as a monk are powerful in their own right, his air-void is his most powerful ability.

Sango

Sango's whole family was murdered by a demon-controlled Lord, and her entire family of Demon Exterminators was killed before her eyes. Forced to fight her brother, she looks for him everyday, convinced he is still alive.

She's the most quiet one of the group, next to InuYasha, and even finds herself falling for Miroku. Her demon-exterminating skills come in handy, and her cat-turned-flying-tiger helps them travel from location to location.

Shippo / Shippou

A young fox-demon, Shippo's ( or spelled Shippou ) father was killed by the Thunder Beast Brothers. He's not very tough, but he's determined, and he keeps everybody else pretty happy. He's still a kid, but he matures a lot as the series goes on.

His powers are very weak, although he can change shapes and use his illusion ability. He's not very serious, though, and he uses most of his abilities for jokes.

Kikyo / Kikyou

The original guardian of the Shikon no Tama, Kikyou ( or spelled Kikyo ) was the strongest of all priestesses. But against all odds, she fell in love with the half-demon, InuYasha. She felt that she could turn InuYasha into a human using the Shikon no Tama, thus ending her role as priestess. However, Naraku made them fight each other, destroying any and all chances of this happening.

She's killed by one of InuYasha's attacks (actually Naraku/Onigumo in disguise) , but is brought back to life by Sorceress using a Shikon no Tama shard. She branches off on her own, essentially, choosing to search out and kill InuYasha. For the most part she tries to live in peace and wander around helping villagers.

Naraku

Born out of all the evil in the world, Naraku is an immensely powerful being. At first a wounded bandit under the care of Kikyou where he was known as Onigumo, his desire for power led him to want more. Trading his body for demons, which made him born into Naraku.

Using the Shikon no Tama, he creates various beings that he is able to "control", though they think for themselves. He trusts no one, but he entrusts the Shikon no Tama to enemies of Kagome, InuYasha in comp. His heart of his previous being, Onigumo, still beats strong for Kikyou-- which Naraku despises. This is one of his weaknesses.

Kagura

Kagura, one of Naraku's reincarnations, she (much to her displeasure) obeys Naraku. She is a demon with the ability to control wind and manipulate it. She hope to be freed from Naraku one day so she can take control of her own life, but since Naraku controls her actual heart, he could easily kill her if she tries to escape.

Kanna

Kanna, also a reincarnation of Naraku, she hardly speaks and is usually unanimated. She is able to use her mirror to spy on anyone, anywhere and can use it to take souls.

Sesshomarou

Sesshomaru (or spelled Sesshoumaru) is InuYasha's brother. Though of the same father, Sesshoumaru is a full-blooded demon, and a powerful one at that.

When Tetsusaiga, a powerful sword able to kill a hundred demons in one hit, is given to InuYasha instead of Sesshoumaru, the brother vs. brother match begins.

Sesshoumaru doesn't seem to have much of a personality outside of his quest for power. The only compassion he shows is when he saves a young human girl, Rin. As far as his being a demon is concerned, he can transform into a gigantic dog-like demon, the same of his father.

Rin

Rin was saved by Sesshomaru using the Tenseiga (the opposite of Tetsusaiga, it can save a thousand demons in one swing). Rin follows Sesshomaru like a younger sister. It's believed Rin brought senses of kindness to Sesshomaru's cold heart. Before Rin met Sesshomaru, Rin didn't speak a word to anyone, mostly due to the shock she received after both of her parents died. But after she met the seriously injured Sesshomaru, helped him recover, then later was saved by him, Rin started to talk again.

Jaken

One word could some up Jaken, annoying. He is a true loyal servant that follows Sesshomaru where ever he goes. His staff is able to spit out flames. He tries his best to feel important, but sometime wonders if Sesshomaru appreciates him or not.

Koga / Kouga

Koga (or spelled Kouga) is the leader of a wolf-deamon tribe. He is a wolf-demon, but gains most of his power from the Shikon shards he has in his legs, which allow him to travel at extremely high speeds. His tribe was attacked by some of Naraku's underlings, and he vowed revenge.

He's the smooth-talker of the series, it seems, and constantly moves in on Kagome. This only causes a rough hatred between InuYasha and Kouga.

Kaede

Kaede, Kikyou's younger sister, is noble and wise. She spends most of her time aiding the InuYasha group when she can. She first met Kagome when she fell through the well and discovered that Kagome is the reincarnation of her sister, Kikyou.

Myoga

Knowledgeable, Myoga pops up from time to time to help the InuYasha group. Any sign of danger and this flea will flee.
