Article Title: Understanding How Kagome can be Hated

Let's just get it out there - I HATE Kagome.

I'm not ashamed of it - in fact I even have a hate site . However, I've discovered that many people on the internet don't seem to understand that there are REAL reasons to hate her character - not just "Inuyasha is MINE!" or "She's too happy!"

So let me explain....

There are several reasons I hate Kagome. I didn't always hate Kagome - I actually started out the series by liking her and how "normal" she seems. We're introduced to her in the series in normal cirumstances - a regular Japanese girl who lives in a shrine in Japan. She has normal worries, she has a normal school uniform, she has an annoying little brother and a mother who loves her. Normal Kagome.

But then I began to notice little things that began to bother me - like how all the character flaws that made her "normal" were designed to make her seem even more admirable (for ex. the weakness in her heart because she's angry at Inuyasha for Kikyou....think about how that inspires sympathy for Kagome's character rather than a sort of "I have that problem too - that's normal, people have flaws" sort of response ) I'll be honest - I hate the typical anime "perfect" girl who seems to play a lead in almost all anime. But Kagome is posing as a lead character who is not this way, and this is nothing but a charade. Kagome has flaws - but they're carefully calculated flaws, ones that make her more endearing rather than more human. She's just too calculated for me, too carefully arranged and measured. There's no heart in her, she's just a math equation constantly giving the right answer.

I would also like to add that Kagome (like Kikyou) is EXTREMELY manipulative. Think about it...she is always putting guilt-trips on Inuyasha, or punishing him because his moral values or ideals of love are not the same as hers. That's not right or fair. I highly doubt that Kagome, or Kikyou, or even Inuyasha truly understands what love is. All of their relationships are built on guilt, lonliness and a need for companionship (a need to be "rescued" which is a terrible reason for a relationship to try to imitate love), and overglorified self-sacrifice. Love is built on a lot more then these petty dramas. Again, however, this sort of "slapstick" love (if you will) is also common in many animes....but its not something that I even pretend to enjoy. I like real emotions, characters that sometimes make REAL mistakes and have to pay for them (when Kagome makes any REAL mistakes other characters have to pay for them or save her from the consequences), characters who have a personality and aren't just an echo of a million other characters that came before.

Also, as I've seen pointed out before, Kagome seems to be the only character who is not developing her fighting skills. Oftent in the series Inuyasha is struggling to develop a new attack, but Kagome (who has the potiental to develop some very powerful attacks herself) is never focusing on making herself stronger. She's content to shoot an arrow every now and then, but most of the time to sit back and let Inuyasha do the dirty work (while she shouts out worried cries of "Inu YASHA!" every now and then). If he can't pull it off, then Kagome will do some amazing thing with her arrows or her miko powers that will awe everyone into silence - even though its obvious that she has no idea how to use her own powers in an efficent way. Hey, the series IS about Inuyasha after all, right? Why not just let him fight and she can play the damsel in distress? That way we can develop more guilt issues for Inuyasha because he's afraid he can't save Kagome...

There are other little quirks about Kagome that have always bothered me, too. For example, Kagome almost always wears her school uniform to the Feudal Age. Why? I could understand why she wore it during her first visit, she was taken to the past without any warning. But, a short skirt and a white shirt doesn't seem the most practical choice of clothing for a lot of running, falling, and battling.

And then...THERE IS KAGOME'S ROOM. HER FRILLY PINK ROOM, WITH A FRILLY PINK SEAT CUSHION AND CURTAINS AND A LITTLE FRILLY PINK THING AROUND HER DOORKNOB. ALL THE PINK AND FRILLY-NESS SICKENS ME (LoL, I don't like pink and frilly things, if you didn't catch that).

LOL, but those last two paragraphs are just sorta the icing on the cake ^^ I find nothing in Kagome that inspires admiration or even respect. I hope I explained my reaons clearly.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, I would NOT like to argue about my reasons. I understand that everyone has different reasons for liking/hating Kagome, but attacking my reasons for hating her will not magically make me like her. Trust me, many have tried. Please don't flame or attack my opinion - I don't mind questions but I do mind people who seem to think that I'm "stupid." This is my story and I'm sticking to it!
